It’s been quite the eventful week in UNC Athletics. Caleb Wilson suffered a broken hand, the Diamond Heels swept their season opener, Kenny Smith’s son Malloy Smith received a basketball offer, Carolina Football signed a transfer quarterback, Courtney Banghart secured win No. 400, Softball scored 44(!) runs in 2 games, and Dylan Mingo is set to commit. On to the updates…

🏀 Basketball

Following UNC Basketball’s dramatic victory over Duke last week (which was ESPN’s most-watched college basketball game in four years), you could almost guarantee that a letdown would follow on Tuesday in Miami…and that’s exactly what happened. UNC’s starting backcourt combined for just six points on 1-of-14 shooting, the Tar Heels were out-rebounded by seven, and fell 75-66 in a lackluster performance (Box Score).

The hits kept coming long after the game when it was discovered that star freshman Caleb Wilson’s “sprained” wrist was actually a fractured left hand upon re-evaluation in Chapel Hill. Wilson’s timetable for return has not been determined, but it seems the earliest he’d be back would be for the ACC Tournament, if at all.
