Michael Malone continues to stock his UNC Basketball staff, luring Jorge Sanz away from Gonzaga, where he served as an assistant coach and director of basketball operations under Mark Few, per The Spokesman-Review. Sanz brings international recruiting expertise and an analytics background to the Tar Heels’ bench.

Speaking of international recruiting, freshman big man Sayon Keita, the 6-foot-11 Mali native who spent time in FC Barcelona’s system, isn’t expected in Chapel Hill until sometime in August as he goes through the visa process.

Athletic director Steve Newmark opened up this week about the difficult decision to move on from Hubert Davis back in March, calling it the toughest call an AD has to make. “It was tough, and we agonized over it. And Hubert is as good a person as you’re going to meet,” Newmark told TarHeel247.

Malone, plus Bill Belichick on the football side, will combine to earn more than $18.3 million this season — the second-highest combined total for a football/basketball coaching duo in the country — as UNC leans further into what TarHeel247 dubbed “New Carolina.” CBS Sports is already bullish on the long-term hire, noting Malone “should have one of the best rosters in the sport moving forward annually” if the front office does its job.

Caleb Wilson kept up his big month, earning a spot on the NBA’s All-Summer League First Team after averaging 23.5 points and 7.3 rebounds over four games in Las Vegas for the Chicago Bulls.

Elsewhere in the pros, Harrison Ingram signed with the Utah Jazz after two seasons split between the G League and the San Antonio Spurs.

In all, nine former Tar Heel players suited up across the Summer League circuit, including R.J. Davis, Pete Nance, Drake Powell, Seth Trimble, and Henri Veesaar.
