It was another big weekend in Carolina Athletics. UNC Basketball threw a block party, Hubert Davis landed a commitment from Maximo Adams and an official visit from Dylan Mingo, UNC Field Hockey beat Duke to advance to the Final Four, Football fell at Wake Forest but flipped a 4-star cornerback, two Tar Heels are headed to the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame, and Women’s Basketball split a pair in Las Vegas. On to the updates…

🏈 Football

Carolina Football took a big step back on Saturday, falling at Wake Forest 28-12. The Tar Heels only mustered 4 field goals on offense, but one of them was a 57-yard school record by kicker Rece Verhoff.

“I’m not gonna lie, it looked like it was gonna hit the upright. And I was like, ‘Oh no.’ And then I saw people holding their hands up good, because I couldn’t see it go in. But I was ecstatic, because I’ve worked a lot just to hit one of those.”

The bad news is that two of UNC’s other field goal attempts were blocked, and the offense failed to score a touchdown in a game for the first time since 2016 after gaining only 257 yards of total offense. Check out all the numbers in the box score.

Sophomore receiver Jordan Shipp, who has been one of the Tar Heels’ vocal leaders, praised UNC’s defense and called out his offensive unit to hold up their end of the bargain:

“When we got in the locker room after the game, I told ‘em, like, ‘Defense, y’all are balling. It’s on us. We can’t expect y’all to stop everybody every drive and us keep going slow.’”

UNC now must win their final two regular-season games (at home vs. Duke and at NC State) to become bowl eligible.

🏀 Basketball

As expected, Carolina Basketball easily handled NC Central on Friday night, 97-53 (Box Score). Freshman forward Caleb Wilson had another monster game with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Here are some more interesting nuggets from the postgame notes:

  • Carolina committed 10 turnovers in the first half and none in the second.

  • UNC blocked 14 shots, its most since blocking 15 vs. Northern Kentucky on 12/27/13. This was the seventh time in UNC history the Tar Heels had at least 14 blocks.

  • Henri Veesaar set career highs with five blocks and 11 rebounds.

The Tar Heels next host Navy on Tuesday, Nov. 18 (7 p.m., ACC Network). And after seemingly taking over UNC’s Marketing department and proclaiming the last two games would be a White Out and a Blue Out, Caleb Wilson is now pushing for fans to wear navy blue for Carolina’s game against the Midshipmen. What can’t he do?

Finally, Seth Trimble may be out of action for the rest of 2025, but he found time ahead of the season to give a VIP all-access tour of the Carolina Basketball facilities to YouTube star Adam Botkin and his 700,000+ followers. This is a must watch, and shows how impressive the facilities must be to high school recruits when they visit.

Because as Armando Bacot famously said, “If you don’t want to commit to UNC, don’t visit because if you do, you will.“
