Carolina Basketball beat Kansas on Friday, but Seth Trimble suffered a tough break on Sunday. UNC Football is two wins from bowl eligibility after beating Stanford, 5-star guard Dylan Mingo cancelled his official visit, Field Hockey claimed its 9th straight ACC title, Women’s Basketball routed Elon, and more. On to the updates…

Football

Much like UNC Basketball’s victory over Kansas on Friday night, it was a tale of two halves for Carolina Football, as the Tar Heels turned on the offense to score 17 second-half points before needing to hold on to beat Stanford, 20-15, on Saturday.

Looking at the Box Score, Stanford outgained UNC in total yards 320-253, led in time of possession (a meaningless stat, if we’re being honest) 33 minutes to 27 minutes, and third-down conversion percentage. But the Tar Heels’ 9(!) sacks for -73 yards made the biggest difference in the game on Military Appreciation Day. 🫡

It was a relatively quiet week for Tar Heels in the NFL, but Drake Maye keeps winning for the New England Patriots (8-2), who beat Tampa Bay 28-16 on the road Sunday. Maye finished 16 of 31 for 270 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. R.L. Bynum at Tar Heel Tribune has the complete weekly NFL rundown.

Basketball

UNC’s 58 second-half points are the second most ever surrendered in any half against a Bill Self coached Kansas team during his 23-year tenure. Here are more postgame notes…

  • Caleb Wilson is the first Tar Heel freshman ever to score more than 20 points in his first two games (22, 24).

  • Henri Veesaar tied his career high with two three-pointers and scored 20 points for the second time in his career.

  • The game included a 26-point swing at UNC took the lead for good.

There was a special moment during the game when Dean Smith’s son presented the Kansas Athletic Director with his father’s 1952 KU championship lettermen’s jacket for display in the Jayhawks’ basketball museum.

But it’s a good thing Dean Smith wasn’t around to see the new sponsorship ad adorning Roy Williams Novo Nordisk Court. Smith was a strong advocate for keeping UNC’s athletic venues ad free.

But, it wasn’t all good news for the UNC Basketball program this weekend. The school announced Sunday night that senior guard Seth Trimble broke his left forearm during a workout Sunday afternoon…
