About The Tar Heel Times Newsletter
Hi, I’m James, the creator of Tar Heel Times and a proud 1993 graduate of UNC. I played wide receiver for the Tar Heels during Mack Brown’s first era in Chapel Hill, before moving on to careers in teaching, coaching, and now software development.
For over 20 years, I’ve run Tar Heel Times as a daily destination for UNC sports news and recruiting updates. Now, this newsletter is your chance to go beyond the headlines—with curated insight, recruiting buzz, personal commentary, and occasional stories from my time on the field in Carolina blue.
Why Subscribe?
📬 Get UNC updates straight to your inbox – No ads, no noise, no FOMO. Just clean, curated content.
🏈 Insider Recruiting Notes – Who’s trending, visiting, or leaning towards the Tar Heels? I’ll keep you in the loop.
📆 Twice-Weekly Updates – Delivered every Monday and Thursday.
💬 Occasional Stories from the Sidelines – I’ll mix in reflections from my playing days and inside-the-locker-room moments when the time is right.
What You’re Supporting
Unlike the main Tar Heel Times website. This newsletter is 100% ad-free and reader-supported. Your $5/month subscription, following the introductory period, helps cover the hours spent researching, curating, writing, and delivering the best Carolina content possible. It’s a great way to support independent coverage of the Tar Heels.
Join the Team
UNC fans are a special family, and this newsletter is built for those who want a little more depth, a little more connection, and a little less noise. Whether you’re here for recruiting scoops, game analysis, or just a regular dose of Tar Heel talk, I’m glad to have you.

Subscriber Testimonials
James. We have messaged back and forth for many years and you have always been responsive. Your site I visit first thing every morning and often a couple of times a day. It is THE go-to place for news about my Heels (class of '77) and so easy to reach from here in Ecuador. And, now, I click over to that subscribe thing! WELL worth the investment. Thanks.
